good and Plan was simple

John Benson
Special to The Plain Dealer
One person's noise is, well, music to the ears of many.
Or so we found out Tuesday night when the raucous "Noise to the World"
tour, an all-inclusive aural trip through modern alt music with Good
Charlotte (hard rock), Simple Plan (pop rock) and Relient K (power
pop), rolled into the Tower City Amphitheater.
Youthful moms, cool kids, awkward teenagers and adult chaperons filled
the outdoor venue on what felt like a precursor to summer, with a
beautiful sunset and warm temperatures.
While in theory a co-headlining show, there were subtle differences
that separated closing act Good Charlotte from Simple Plan. The former,
dressed in rock-star regalia, presented a decidedly more rounded
performance to a noticeably thinner audience (after all, the band
didn't go on until the wee hour of 9 p.m.), with long intros, creative
segues and a harder set. The latter, dressed up as "TRL" punks,
concentrated on fast-and-furious angsty material.
Led by the charismatic singer Joel Madden, Good Charlotte rocked at
full throttle throughout its 14-song, hourlong set with battling guitar
chords and heavy percussion. The only misstep came during the ska
digression "The World Is Black," which was a bit too jangly and
keyboard-driven for the guitar-bent audience. Highlights included the
powerful "S.O.S.," the disco-esque "I Just Wanna Live" and the playful
"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous." | | Read rest of Review Here URL | | Click here to read rest of the review |
