American Idol Band was terrible. WAY too loud and distorted bass.

The American Idol performers were good WHEN we could hear them. The American Idol tour band was so loud and so bass heavy that the singers were drowned out on most of the songs. I am not some follower of Clay Aiken who wants soft and romantic who doesn't like loud music. I like loud music like Stevie Ray Vaughan, but this was completely and utterly over top. At first I thought it was me, but when the guys played as a group with their own instruments and no backup band, they had no distortion and their volume was a half or even maybe a third of what the tour band put out. When the tour band started back, I felt physically assaulted at the volume and distortion.

American Idol Tour proves that they sucked

Diverse 'American Idol' cast mixes it up at the X BY ROSS RAIHALA Pop Music Critic Article Last Updated: 08/04/2007 10:28:11 PM CDT Has "American Idol" lost its luster? Not only did sixth season ratings sag, the attendance of Saturday night's "American Idols Live" tour stop at the Xcel Energy Center rang in at about 11,000 folks - 5,000 fewer than last year. It's unfortunate if 2007's group marks the beginning of the end for the franchise. Sure, the season lacked a breakout star like Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood or even Clay Aiken. (Believe it or not, I spotted one woman at the show wearing a "Where's Clay?" shirt.) But the 10 finalists on hand Saturday night proved to be a varied and mostly entertaining bunch. Taking advantage of the cast's diversity - from populist balladeer Phil Stacey to soul sister LaKisha Jones - producers mixed up the night, bouncing from solo showcases to ensemble pieces. And they had the sense to curtail leggy train wreck Haley Scarnato's stage time, allowing her a straight-out-of-Branson rendition of Martina McBride's "When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues" and a spot in "Lady Marmalade" with rocker Gina Glocksen and Jones, who predictably outsang them all. (That said, at least the prostitute-themed number matched Scarnato's fashion sense.) Beyond that, bashful diva Melinda Doolittle paired with unsettling-teen-idol-in-waiting Sanjaya Malakar for a terrific "Proud Mary" in which he was the winner in approximating Tina Turner's hairdo. Tubby Christian rocker Chris Sligh tore through Mute Math's "Typical" - a song he helped make a genuine hit - and the dual powerhouses that are Doolittle and Jones claimed ample stage time both solo and together.

American Idol Tour is steady

Idol singers bring home pop, pizazz By Haley Edwards Seattle Times staff reporter Hoop earrings, sparkly eye shadow and ponytails might as well have been mandatory at Friday night's "American Idols Live" concert at the Tacoma Dome. For almost three full hours, more than 10,000 fans were on their feet, screaming — no, squealing — as the top 10 contestants from season six of "American Idol" crooned, shimmied and strutted like the newly anointed rock stars they are. Judging only by the decibel level and pitch of the crowd's screams, most people present were girls age 11-14. "Oh my God, he's perfect. The clothes, the singing, the beatboxing, the looks. Everything," said Tacoma's Ashley Linder, 14, about Blake Lewis, the 26-year-old runner-up Idol from Bothell. "And the 12-year age difference? I could deal with it." In between sets, the crowd was invited to text-message to a digital message board on either side of the stage. "Marry me, Sanjaya!" pleaded one, referring to the area's other Idol, Sanjaya Malakar, 17, of Federal Way. The entire show had a sweet, innocent air about it. The female contestants, not yet inured to the pelvic-thrusting sexiness sported by many mainstream pop stars, seemed almost self-conscious, as if performing in front of their collective fathers. Similarly, the male contestants seemed genuinely shocked by the hordes of girls who — sometimes with tears streaming down their faces — professed their undying love. The concert was more than just idle worship: The 10 performers are quite talented vocalists.

'Idol' finalists rock out at Arco What a difference a season a makes. Season 6 of the "American Idol Tour" rocked Arco Arena on Wednesday night. More than 10,000 "Idol" fans were treated to a show vastly altered from 2006, with this year's finalists pushing the musical genre envelope further than their predecessors. There were Motown medleys, Fall Out Boy rock and soulful songs such as "Natural Woman" and "I Will Always Love You." Click Me! The top 10 finalists proved they were worthy of their success this season. We even saw the five guys perform a "Hey Jude" rendition that brought down the house. The female vocalists wowed with "Lady Marmalade," and season 6 winner Jordin Sparks sang her winning song, "This Is My Now." All the finalists played to their vocal specialties, especially Blake Lewis, whose beat-boxing brought the crowd to its feet.

Just like TV season, they aren't good live either

'American Idols Live' at Jobing.com Arena Randy Cordova The Arizona Republic At the "American Idols Live" concert tour, a lot of big questions surrounded hometown girl and Idol winner Jordin Sparks. For instance, can she rule the concert stage? Is she going to be a huge star? And does she sound as good as she does on TV? Well, after Wednesday’s show at Jobing.com Arena, the answers to most of the questions remain rather fuzzy. Jordin was featured in six songs that closed out the night. It was the biggest individual showcase any of the 10 performers got, and rightfully so: She is the Idol winner. But she tends to run hot or cold, depending on what she’s singing. For example, when she ripped into the melodrama of Shirley Bassey’s I (Who Have Nothing), she was poised and persuasive, delivering the tune with an astonishing maturity that surpassed her 17 years. On the other hand, she’s not a rocker. Heartbreaker was second-string karaoke, even though Jordin exclaimed, “I love me some Pat Benatar!” before starting the tune. Her stage patter is something she needs to work on. She’s young and it’s early in the tour, so hopefully she will improve. In Glendale, she repeatedly got breathless, giggled and told the crowd how much she loved them. It got old rather quickly. And because she's so young, she lacked the polish and charisma that performers like Melinda Doolittle and Blake Lewis brought to the show. The night began with all the Idols on stage, singing the Black Eyed Peas’ Let’s Get It Started. The vocalists then were trotted out in different combinations, some which worked better than others. Jordin and Melinda had fun with a sassy take on Natalie Cole’s This Will Be, while the five guys teamed for a version of Hey Jude that was almost painful. The odd groupings also meant there was too much of Chris Richardson’s nasal whine, as he seemed to be featured in almost every other number.
